BRIDGES: A Daphne White Novel by Maria Murnane
First of all, I must say that this was the first novel I read entirely in English, so it represented a challenge for me. I hope that someday they will publish the novels of Maria Murnane in Spanish.
In Bridges we will attend the reunion of three friends of the university era, distanced by time and space, in New York City, where every woman has a secret to tell, a fear to reveal and a hope to maintain.
Daphne White, the protagonist, is a writer who sent her newly written novel to some thirty publishing agencies, but unfortunately, the answer she expects is taking a long time to arrive. In the meantime, she will meet with her ex-college colleagues, Skylar and KC. In the process Daphne will discover that she must learn to look behind appearances, that also her precious friends can feel fear and pain, as much as she.
This story refers to the eternal search for love: the love of a couple, the love of a friend, the love of a mother, and even the love of themselves as women. Apart from the three friends, there are also other characters, such as Krissa, a super fun girl and Sloanne, the Ice Princess.
An interesting detail is that the novel is its title: Bridges (Puentes en español). And it is that in this story we will see the bridges that these female characters build between them and that strengthen their friendship in each moment they spend together. However, this goes further, because these bridges also make their way into the heart of these three Musketeers, helping them in some way to overcome their own fears and anxieties. Another consideration regarding the title, Bridges, is that if you remove the letter g, the word Bride remains. All women identify with this word because at some point in our lives we all are, we have been or want to be, like the characters in this story.
The reading was delicious, but without a doubt, the best was that pleasant taste that left me in its last pages. The outcome contains a special message Esperanza flavor. It makes you sigh and give a breath of fresh air, those that make you out small tears of contentment.
For all those writers aspiring to become authors – like Daphne White and me – this book is a must !!!
I will conclude this review saying that friendship is the main protagonist of this book and I suspect that it is also in the life of the author. I do not know Maria Murnane personally, we have only exchanged some friendly emails, but she has seemed a bright and warm person, who likes to maintain close contact with her readers!!!
